Mentoring and Outreach

Mentoring Philosophy: Trust the process and enjoy the process.

Nurture, encourage, push and pursue. I aim to push students to find and see their potential. I want them to feel comfortable pushing boundaries, being wrong and discovering themselves. While also showing and encouraging them there is a place for everyone in science.

As a graduate student, I have had the opportunity to directly mentor undergraduates in the research lab. During graduate school, I mentored 4 students starting as freshman, through their entire undergraduate career. This experience has taught me about project management, team management, organization, communication and collaboration. Three of them successfully received their own funding award to pursue research during their tenure and have pursued professional school following graduation. Currently three are in professional school (UNC-CH (Medical School), Case Western Reserve (Dental School) and University of Tennessee Health Sciences (Medical School)
